Brocade Fidget

$250.00

This sculpture is a type of fidget or machine called a kaleidocycle. It’s essentially six pyramids joined together in a ring by hinges. The hinges rotate into the center of the ring to show four unique designs. This particular cycle is pocket sized, about 2.5” across.

This was one of my very first kaleidocycles and it was directly inspired by a book I checked out from the library that showed some of the crafts of Imperial China. I got the book because I was interested in the beadwork, of course, but the fabrics were what really drew my eye. Beautiful brocades in yellow, accented with gold and precious materials. This cycle came shortly thereafter. It is one of a kind.
