Princess Crab
The word “carcinisation” describes the tendency of the natural world towards crabs. Animals outside of the crab family evolve into crab shapes so often that there has to be a special word to describe this phenomenon. This sculpture is another addition to the family.
It’s no secret to any casual viewer of my work that I am a big fan of pink. Usually though that pink is in service of blooms or shells, nature motifs. “Princess Crab” however is the kind of pink that speaks of decadence. Gold accents, a different jewel color on every leg, and a crown-like fringe complete the picture. I’ve never made anything else quite like her and I adore her for it.
”Princess Crab”, 2022. 4” x 4” x 1.5”. Seed beads, monofilament thread.
