Memento Mori
“Memento Mori” is a Latin phrase that is meant to evoke the image of death. This beaded book was made as a way for me to work through my own fears of time and inevitability. There are five unique pages, ivory on matte black, each illustrating an animal skull: cougar, deer, raven, toad and human. The cover includes other common tropes of the memento mori aesthetic, namely the hourglass and the wilting flower on the spine.
This is a slightly larger version of my miniature book necklaces, measuring 1.5” x 1” x 0.5” when closed. The pages open and turn easily. The book comes with an 18” gossamer chain which can be altered or swapped for an extra fee.
